Cancellation Certificate – NADRA Pakistan

 


A Cancellation Certificate is required when identity documents issued by NADRA need to be officially cancelled due to specific legal reasons. This process ensures accurate records and compliance with Pakistani laws.

Below are the main types of Cancellation Certificates and their requirements.


1. Cancellation of Identity Documents Due to Death

NADRA issues a Cancellation Certificate when a person passes away, under Section 17(1) of NADRA Ordinance, 2000.

📌 It is the responsibility of a family member to apply for cancellation within 60 days of death.

Required Documents:

  • Verified Computerized Death Certificate issued by:

    • Union Council (UC)

    • Municipal Committee

    • Cantonment Board

    • OR Foreign Death Certificate


2. Cancellation of ID Documents Due to Surrender of Pakistani Nationality

Pakistani citizens who acquire citizenship of countries not allowing dual nationality with Pakistan must surrender their Pakistani nationality under Section 14 of Pakistan Citizenship Act, 1951.

Required Documents:

  • Passport of single-national country AND

  • Undertaking “D” (prescribed format)
    OR

  • Renunciation Certificate
    OR

  • Dual National Country Passport + Verified Renunciation Certificate


3. Cancellation of POC Due to Dual Nationality Agreement or Resumption of Pakistani Nationality

Ex-Pakistanis who resume Pakistani nationality or become eligible under a dual nationality agreement must cancel their POC (Pakistan Origin Card).

Required Documents:

  • Resumption Letter / Citizenship Certificate from IMPASS (verified)
    OR

  • Undertaking “I” (if Pakistani nationality was not formally renounced)


4. Cancellation of POC Due to Divorce

(For Foreign Spouse Only)

Under NADRA (POC) Rules, 2002, a foreign spouse remains eligible for POC only while married to a Pakistani citizen.

After divorce, the Pakistani spouse must apply for cancellation of the foreign ex-spouse’s POC.

Required Documents:

  • Divorce Papers (verified)


5. DUP Cancellation (Duplicate Identity Records)

If a person holds two or more identity cards or CRCs with different identity numbers, NADRA marks the record as DUP.

Only one correct identity is retained; all duplicates are cancelled automatically after approval.
